Alternate Routes
Mathematics made her wince.
She declared it would be more natural
to sing. She sang in trigonometry
class, insisting she better understood
the relations between angles
and could render them
even flawlessly if heard.
The herd of students in the class
moved away from her voice,
calling her a property snob
who sought to know and
share the height of mountains
on her property and to calculate
the length of a river there.
She claimed she only wanted
to make what she owned accessible.
