I Forgot, I Keep
I forgot, I keep
forgetting
to tell you how
indelible you are
against the thin
skin of my heart.
I learn and relearn you
by Braille,
by gum,
by God.
There is no living without
your believing my smile
warms up the room,
the surrounding forsythia
Mexican gold poppy, forsythia,
bluebells, prickly pear,
even when the misremembered
moments sting and linger
changing the moments
so light holds still
together and we live
together in my mind
where I am
constantly
reminded of you.
