One of my kin writes me on holidays

to say, I hope you're smiling. I am known

for smiling perhaps more than some others.

For instance, when I worked at an office

not quite four miles from here, I would smile 

at the woman manning the front desk. I learned

later this meant something to her. She told me

it made her mornings better.
