Valentine
You asked me to remove the necklace
of boulders leaden across my neck.
What had felt like polished obedience
pained me for years with its harsh gravity.
As I let go, the weight once lifted
released and took me into my own arms.
And just ahead of another sunrise
I could decipher chance blue a peach hue
with froth gray, imbued with their own
soon disappearance better than a prior
jewelry misconstrued that I might
finally love you as I am.
