Solemn Vow
I promise armloads of no speech,
House silence you may achieve for keeps.
I promise no opinions anymore, most notably
those dogmatic ones, the overtones
you would prefer were returned to their nest.
Wherever they may lay their heads,
let them rest. My personality takes work
to embed. Just take me to bed and help me
elbow my way elsewhere for a little while.
It’s my style to overplay the game
of dodgeball in the hope of permanent
defense. I forget that without offense
there will be no score. With that I’ve gotten by.
Don’t listen anymore. You’ve heard enough
to let you fly. I promise I will know
enough to forecast nothing to interfere
with your pursuits, the honey scented
and cemented truths.
